The magic ring (also called magic circle or adjustable ring) is a technique for starting projects worked in the round. Unlike a chain ring, the magic ring can be pulled completely closed, leaving no hole in the centre. Essential for amigurumi, hats, and granny squares.
Wrap the yarn around your index and middle finger twice, creating a loop.
Insert your hook under the first strand and over the second strand.
Yarn over and pull up a loop through the ring.
Chain 1 to secure (this does not count as a stitch).
Work your required number of stitches into the ring, inserting your hook into the centre of the ring each time.
Once all stitches are made, pull the yarn tail firmly to close the ring tight.
Slip stitch into the first stitch to join the round.
