Double Crochet

dc
Basic

Double crochet is one of the most versatile and commonly used stitches. It is twice the height of a single crochet and works up quickly, making it ideal for blankets, scarves, and garments. Many stitch patterns are built on the double crochet.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1

Yarn over before inserting your hook into the next stitch.

  2. 2

Insert the hook into the stitch.

  3. 3

Yarn over and pull up a loop — you now have three loops on your hook.

  4. 4

Yarn over and pull through the first two loops — two loops remain on the hook.

  5. 5

Yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops — one double crochet is complete.

  6. 6

At the end of the row, chain 3 (counts as the first double crochet) and turn your work.
